Trying to find out if there's anyway to run it without a pandora battery. Also the Pandora software is only to use if I have a pandora battery right?

In many cases a Pandora battery is required unless you have one of the older PSP's. You can make it yourself but I would suggest getting one off the net. They are cheap, you can get them from anywhere like eBay.com, amazon.com etc...
